Rethinking menstrual care
We believe your body deserves understanding, not dismissal
Our Story
Moon Cycle began with a simple belief: period pain isn't something women should simply accept.
For generations, menstrual pain has been dismissed and normalised. Moon Cycle exists to help women understand their bodies, care for their cycles, and move beyond the belief that pain is just part of being a woman.
Built on listening
Rooted in Ayurveda
Shaped by clinical practice
Made for modern cycles
Meet the Founder
Moon Cycle was shaped through years of caring for women in clinical practice.
As an Ayurvedic practitioner trained at the world's oldest Ayurveda institute, Dr. Alka Vijayan repeatedly encountered women whose menstrual pain was dismissed as something to endure rather than understand.
Those experiences inspired a different approach to menstrual care. One rooted in Ayurveda, informed by clinical practice, and designed to support the body's changing needs through every phase of the cycle.
Our Approach
Years of clinical observation
Moon Cycle began in clinical practice, not in a lab.
Over years of treating women, recurring patterns began to emerge around gut health, inflammation, and menstrual pain. Those observations became the foundation of Moon Cycle.
Patterns that couldn't be ignored
Women being treated for gut inflammation and systemic imbalance often reported an unexpected outcome: their period pain reduced or disappeared, even though dysmenorrhea wasn't being treated directly.
It became clear that menstrual pain wasn't an isolated issue, but part of a broader picture of whole-body health.
Returning to Ayurvedic texts
Classical Ayurvedic texts like Ashtanga Hridaya and Charaka Samhita describe pain, including menstrual pain, as abnormal and pathological, most often linked to inflammation and Apana Vata imbalance.
This reaffirmed what clinical experience had already shown: pain is communication, not something to normalise.
Understanding different kinds of pain
Over time, distinct patterns became clear.
Dull, heavy pain often reflected Kapha–Ama involvement. Sharp, spasmodic pain pointed to Vata imbalance. Burning sensations suggested increased Pitta.
Addressing inflammation and clearing Ama often brought meaningful relief, even for women who had experienced pain since menarche.
Food as the first medicine
Ayurveda places food at the centre of healing. Sesame, long used in traditional diets for women’s health, stood out for its ability to nourish Rakta dhatu, balance Vata and Kapha, and support the reproductive system.
Small batches of sesame-based formulations were created and shared. The response was immediate and intuitive.
Different phases need different care
Over time, it became clear that no single formulation could support the body's changing needs throughout the cycle.
Different phases called for different kinds of nourishment.
That insight became the foundation of Moon Cycle's phase-aware approach.
Slow, intentional development
From 2020 to 2026, formulations were tested, adjusted, and refined through continued clinical use. Products were released in small batches, feedback was gathered, and changes were made only when they felt honest and necessary.
Shorter shelf life was a conscious choice. Real food doesn’t last forever, and that integrity mattered more than scale.
A phase-aware nourishment system
Moon Cycle is not a collection of quick fixes. It is a system of food, herbs, and rituals designed to support the menstrual cycle as a dynamic, whole-body process.
Each product exists to meet a specific phase. Because care should change as the body changes.
We help women understand their bodies and respond with care. Rooted in Ayurveda and guided by clinical experience, Moon Cycle supports every phase of your cycle.
